Bringing the family business community together

The Judging Process

The Family Business of the Year Awards are now in their eighth year and if last year is anything to go by, the judging will not be easy.  Nominations from family firms are sought from all over the country with the deadline for nominations being November 30.

The judges then determine a shortlist for each region based on a desktop review of nominations and these are announced in early January, at which time those shortlisted firms are encouraged to begin marketing and social media campaigns to gain support as the People's Choice Award is determined purely by public vote.

Once the shortlists have been announced in January, an information request is sent out to those shortlisted to submit a pack upon which their nomination can be assessed.  This provides the judges with the basic information on the family firm, its heritage and values and background information, as well as explaining why they feel they will be worthy winners of the title.  The judges also request that any supplementary materials to support the nomination are submitted with the pack - marketing collateral, press cuttings, details of previous awards etc.  Each pack needs to be submitted for judging by March 13 and be signed off by a family member.

Nominations are welcomed from family businesses of all sizes as financial size is not the only factor that is looked at to determine the winners of these awards which seek to celebrate the success of the family business sector and those within it.

The judges will meet to deliberate over the nominations and determine the winners that will be announced on June 4, 2020 at the prestigious May Fair Hotel in London.  The results of the public vote have NO influence over the judging decisions and it is the judges alone who determine the winners of the regional and sector awards, and ultimately decide on the overall Supreme Champion Family Business of the Year for 2020.
