We are delighted to announce that Alfredo De Massis has been inducted into the Family Business United ‘Family Business Hall of Fame,’ which recognises the exceptional contribution of individuals and their work in advancing the field of family business.
Alfredo is a world-renowned Professor of Entrepreneurship & Family Business who conducts research, education and advisory activities for family enterprises, family offices and policy makers.
He is a highly published and cited family business scholar, an editor of the leading journals on family business and entrepreneurship, and a globally recognised thought leader whose research has fundamentally advanced existing knowledge on entrepreneurial families and had a concrete impact on practice and policy making having been cited, for instance, in official documents of the European Union.
Alfredo has founded and/or relaunched three international centres for family business research and served on the boards of public and private organizations internationally, including in Italy, China, Hong Kong, the US, Germany, and the UK.
As Paul Andrews, Founder and CEO of Family Business United adds, “Alfredo is a significant contributor to the family business sector and his endeavours are recognised and appreciated all around the world. He continues to be an innovative influencer within the sector and he truly deserves his place in the Family Business Hall of Fame.”
As Alfredo concludes, “What is truly fascinating about the management of family enterprises is that decisions and behaviour do not always follow an economically rational logic. There are emotions at play, and such emotions shape the willingness of entrepreneurial families to engage in distinctive behaviour, by offering a unique source of motivation, while at the same time influencing their ability to undertake such behaviour. We need to consider these emotional dynamics and work on both family willingness and family ability when accompanying entrepreneurial families to prosper and thrive across generation.”
“I have been advising, teaching, and doing research in the family business sector for a long time, it is a great honour and pleasure that my contribution to this important sector in any world economy is recognized and has a place in the Family Business Hall of Fame.”
