Ottobock CEO Professor Hans Georg Näder accepted the CampdenFB European Families in Business Award 2012 at the historical Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam on 9 July.
In a ceremonial act, the jurors presented the award for European family companies with outstanding economic engagement which was awarded for the first time this year. Ottobock won in the 'Top Family Business' category; other nominees included De’Longhi, Gebrüder Weiss, Hermes and the Lego Group.
The Duderstadt medtech company came out on top against 150 competitors after an extensive selection process. Ottobock as a global market leader exhibited great social involvement in addition to economic engagement.
"The front runners act as role models for both family companies and enterprises that are not family managed," said David Bain, Editorial Director of Campden Wealth, in recognition.
Continuity defines the successful course of Ottobock. The family company has been managed by Professor Hans Georg Näder in the third generation since 1990 – after the grandson of the founder took over as head of Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH at the age of 28.
The personal performance of Professor Hans Georg Näder as an entrepreneur has been recognised with the highest honours. In 2003 he received the award as Germany's Entrepreneur of the Year in the prestigious Industry category. Professor Näder, who describes his leading role in the company as the head of a team, also views these honours as recognition and motivation for his employees. Ottobock has been among the top 100 German SMEs for years.
