Another family business being recognised for their success
Seddon Construction has been selected as a finalist in the Sustainable Project of the Year category for the 2013 Construction News Awards, to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on 11 July 2013.
Seddon has been shortlisted for its role as part of the project team which delivered a super-sustainable refurbishment of Victorian terraced housing in Bowker Street, Salford for Contour Homes. Seddon used its sustainability construction expertise to turn 12 two-bedroom flats which had been empty for more than two years into six, four-bedroom houses. The homes were made as energy-efficient as possible for residents and were the first to achieve the BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment standard with the pilot property achieving the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating and the five other homes rated ‘Excellent’.
Seddon Construction operations manager John Lancaster says: “On behalf of the entire project team, we’re thrilled to see this recognition for the Bowker Street project. The partners worked closely together to deliver these energy-efficient, modern family homes for tenants.”
The news comes shortly after the Bowker Street scheme’s success at the 2013 BREEAM Awards where the project won the Refurbishment Special Award.
A record number of entries were submitted for this year’s Construction News Awards. Finalists will now face Dragon’s Den-style live interviews to members of the 53-strong jury of esteemed key clients, contractors, consultants, institutes and government departments including Simon Kirby – Network Rail; Tony Jacob - John Lewis Partnership; John Mead – Crossrail; Tony Giddings – Argent; James Pellatt - Great Portland Estates and David Philp – Cabinet Office.
The Construction News Awards, held by leading trade publication Construction News, are among the most coveted industry awards. Construction News editor, Rebecca Evans comments: “The construction industry has a lot to shout about and these awards are a part of that, each of you should feel rightly proud to be among our finalists.”
