Global Entrepreneur of the Year Award For Deepak Kuntawala, Founder, DVK
18th March 2013 Paul Andrews
Winner of the 2013 Indus Entrepreneurs Award
Zambian-UK Migrant Deepak Kuntawala is the Founder of DVK, a dynamic global commodity trading and finance boutique-company and has just been crowned Global Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 as the winner of The Indus Entrepreneurs Award.
The DVK family business has over 110 years of experience in the trading and manufacturing industry – in fact Deepak’s grandfather used to produce clothes for the British Army in Africa.
Deepak and his family arrived in the UK in the 1970s and literally had to establish their business from scratch - Kaysons Trading Company, a wholesale and distribution organisation dealing in gift/ artifact related products originating and manufactured in China, India, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Kaysons’ clients were UK based companies including chemists, card/photographic stores and garden centres/giftware retails. It is through this enterprise that Deepak got his first taste of international trading. He daringly set-up a small office within a store room of a warehouse and within weeks of establishing the office, Deepak launched DVK international.
Today the business is highly successful international brand covering private equity, wealth management, structured trade and commodity finance, trading, capital markets, infrastructure, real estate, mining, aviation investment and fund management sectors.
Under Deepak’s leadership, he launched DVK in Johannesburg, China, Hong Kong, UAE, Switzerland, Moscow, Nairobi, Ghana, Malawi, Madrid, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Deepak has been credited with creating various industry firsts, including a women’s only Shari’ah fund in the Middle East to channel investment flow into the region, and for DVK’s work in the BRIC markets in the Middle East, Russia and Africa.
