Family Business United and Mairi Mickel’s Business Families have teamed up to run an action learning peer group for next generation family business members and rising leaders. The group will meet once a month for five months initially to discuss the challenges that next generation family members face when entering, progressing through and ultimately stepping into leadership roles in their family business.
Each session will enable participants to safely discuss some of the practical and emotional challenges associated with being the the next generation in you family business and include topics such as:
- Preparing to enter the family business
- Gaining respect and making a difference amongst colleagues and parents
- Collaborating to find the right role
- Getting heard and communication skills
- Developing a career development path
- Learning leadership skills and how to apply them
Mairi Mickel and Paul Andrews will co-host and facilitate the sessions that will be practical and focus on specific issues of the group at the time, with learning coming through practical suggestions and actions to be taken away and gentle accountability to those actions. Sharing challenges and experiences between next generation members is a great way to enhance learning and development and to help move things forward in your family business.
The objective of the programme is for us to deliver facilitated online structured sessions with input from a group of like-minded next generation family business members.
The group will meet over five months from March 2021.
The final session will be agreed with delegates in due course.
About the facilitators
Mairi Mickel is a fourth generation member of a business family and understands – perhaps more than most – the challenges faced by business families, especially during periods of transition. Mairi founded Mairi Mickel’s Business Families in 2012 to provide business families with specialist continuity or exit planning support. Since then, she has helped a wide range of owners (in the UK and internationally) to future proof both their family business and their business family for this generation, the next and the next after that.
Paul Andrews is the founder of Family Business United, an award-winning magazine and resource centre for the family business community. Paul has worked within the family business sector for over 20 years, championing family firms and the contribution they make to economies and communities the world over and is recognised as one of the top 100 family business influencers globally.
