Proud Yorkshire Family Firm Embraces Its Apprentices

With a history that stretches back more than 75 years, JCT600 has come an incredibly long way since it started life as a single garage on Sticker Lane in Bradford.

Four generations later, and JCT600 remains a proud family business, despite now being one of UK’s largest and most highly respected motor retailers.

JCT600 represents 24 of the world’s most iconic brands at more than 50 locations throughout Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, and the North East, and yet its ambition remains the same as ever – to be the best, not necessarily the biggest.

Apprentices play an important part of the workforce and there are now 109 across the business.  As Marilyn Badger from JCT600 explains, “They naturally grow into our culture and it is so pleasing to see so many forge their careers with JCT600 too.”

As a family business JCT600 undertake a bespoke approach to the integration of their apprentices too.  “First there is a group interview stage and then we organise various induction events with apprentices and their parents which includes a full JCT600 presentation that incorporates the history and values that have got us to where we are today,” continues Marilyn.

Apprentices can also be a great asset to a business, “especially as a way to ‘grow your own people’ which is the end result if you mentor them well,” she continues.

Ellis Williams is an Apprentice Technician in Mercedes Benz in Chesterfield is delighted with the apprenticeship.  “I never wake up not wanting to come into work and I love the learning side of the apprenticeship and the opportunity that it could be the start of a long and successful career too.”

Family firms across the UK employ apprentices and it is great to see one of the UK’s largest motor retailers embracing apprentices within their family firm.  JCT6oo are clearly committed to developing their apprentices and offering long term opportunities as a result.

Another great example of a family firm that is doing the right thing, encouraging engagement and developing the next generation of a skilled workforce too and a programme that is clearly loved by the JCT600 apprentices too.
