Colton Packaging is celebrating success after being recognised at the Business Masters and Leicestershire Live Business Awards
Leicestershire based, independent fifth generation family business, Colton Packaging has been named a winner at the East Midlands Business Masters Awards with TheBusinessDesk.com. After being finalists in the Investment, Sustainability and Family Business of the Year categories, Colton took home the title of “Investment Business of the Year 2022”.
In an awards ceremony at Nottingham’s Crowne Plaza on October 13th, attended by more than 300 regional businesses, Colton beat off stiff competition to be crowned winners in the Investment category.
In the same evening, Colton was named as a finalist in the annual Leicestershire Business Awards 2022 at another awards evening at Leicester’s King Power Stadium. The nominations were whittled down by a team of independent judges helped by Leicestershire Live Business Editor Tom Pegden and the Reach Plc business and events teams, resulting in Colton being named as finalists in the “Medium Business of the Year” category.
Recently celebrating its first anniversary at its new 55,000 square foot warehouse and office facility in Loughborough, Colton Packaging has had a transformational couple of years. The new site triples the size of its staff welfare facilities and a climate-controlled heating and cooling system has been installed, as well as investments made in new material handlers. Planning has also just been granted for the business to expand with the construction of two new storage and warehousing units.
Colton has demonstrated continued strategic change and investment in its own operations with the installation of Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Panels on the office roof to generate power. These, combined with six Tesla batteries, go towards the firm’s ambitions to be more sustainable and less reliant in the national grid for power. The Tesla batteries enable the business to store energy for peak winter periods and the accompanying app provides data and insights to manage energy consumption.
The business also supports its manufacturing customers with reducing their own environmental impacts. It has designed corrugated cardboard packaging solutions, that can themselves be recycled, to replace the need for bulky and landfilling polystyrene.
Colton Packaging’s Managing Director, Laura Colton-Smith said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the Colton team. Over the past couple of years, we’ve made a series of significant investments to create a sustainable foundation for the long-term future growth of our business. Recognition at both these awards is testament to the hard work and commitment of our team, we’re really proud of what they have achieved and excited about what the future holds.”
