Great Support For National Family Business Day

September 23 is National Family Business Day 2020 in the UK, brought to you by Family Business United (‘FBU’), and we want to extend our thanks and support to our sponsors who are supporting the event.

Our thanks go to Cynergy Bank, Mattioli Woods, Western Pension Solutions and Birketts LLP.

National Family Business Day is a celebration of the contribution made by family businesses across the UK and all of our sponsors work closely with many family firms.  Created by FBU, the family business community is encouraged to come together and engage on social media using the hashtag #GBFamilyBizDay and share images, news stories and content to reflect the depth and diversity of the sector across the UK, a sector that comprises around 5 million family firms and employs around 13 million people.

As Paul Andrews, founder and CEO of FBU explains, “It really is a great day when so many fabulous family firms share their stories, history and heritage and get a chance to be part of a wider forum that makes such a difference to lives across the UK on a daily basis – from the tea and coffee that helps us start the day, to the milk on our cereal and bread in the toaster, to the beers and wines we drink, the hotels we stay in, the coaches that takes us from A to B, the manufacturers that make the things we need, the builders constructing the homes we live in and many more besides.  Family firms are the engine room of the UK economy and it is a pleasure to champion the family business sector, not just on National Family Business Day but each and every day throughout the year too.”

Ben Fowler, Managing Director of Western Pension Solutions adds: “We are delighted to offer our support to Paul and the team at FBU who do a fantastic job championing family firms.  As an organisation that works with family businesses to provide trusted advice on how to solve their pension legacy issues and secure employees’ retirement there is a natural appreciation of the sector and the contribution that family firms make to the UK economy.  It is a great event and one that we are delighted to be a part of.”

Ravi Sidhoo, Managing Director, Private & Business Banking, the specialist bank serving the blended financial needs of business owners, property entrepreneurs and family businesses adds, “Cynergy Bank is delighted to be a sponsor of the National Family Business Day 2020.”

Alex Nelson, Head of Family Business at Birketts, the full-service law firm based in four offices in East Anglia, providing expert legal advice to businesses and individuals adds:  “Family firms and their owners are a core part of our daily working lives and we are delighted to be supporting this event.  East Anglia is awash with family firms and we are looking forward to engaging with many of them on September 23.  They really are the heart of communities the length and breadth of the UK and it is great that there is a day to celebrate the contribution they make.”

Jody Downes, Business Development Director at Mattioli Woods, one of the UK’s leading providers of wealth management and employee benefit services agrees: “We have been working with entrepreneurial family firms across the UK for many years, and are actually a family firm too, so we recognise the difference that family can bring to a business.  Family firms are the backbone of the UK economy and we are delighted to be working with FBU to raise the profile of this dynamic and important sector of the economy on September 23.”

Family businesses and those working in the sector can find out more about how to get involved and be part of National Family Business Day here

As Paul concludes, “The event gets bigger and better every year and we see no reason why 2020 will be different. Family businesses are so important to the UK economy and deserve all the recognition they can get and as the economy starts to bounce back and recover from the impact of the global pandemic, they have an even greater role to play in the way they support communities the length and breadth of the country through the provision of jobs, income generation and wealth creation, not to mention all of the philanthropic and charitable things they do too.”

“We look forward to celebrating #GBFamilyBizDay 2020 on September 23.”
