Building For The Future At Story Decorating

Story Decorating took the Property & Construction crown at the Family Business of the Year Awards (‘FBOTY’) organised by Family Business United (‘FBU’).

FBU celebrates family owned businesses across the UK, recognising the contribution they make in terms of employment, income generation and wealth creation and the national awards are the culmination of the award journey and a chance to really put family businesses on the map.

In the ‘virtual’ awards ceremony held live online, Story Decorating took the national Property & Construction  title and were worthy winners of the accolade.

As Paul Andrews, Founder and CEO of FBU explains, “Story Decorating is a great example of a family form looking to the future with strong leadership, continued growth and strategic direction from the current generation at the helm.  Good management, innovative solutions to challenges and clear communication are at the core of this family firm.”

“Strong values permeate the business and shape its culture and their ability to be innovative, adapt and evolve will stand them in good stead for the future.  Story Decorating were recognised for their core qualities and pride in what they do and for the good balance of family and business, governance and their strong desire to succeed,” concludes Paul.

The current generation, Rob and Claire Story took over the business upon the retirement of the founder, Rob’s father, who started the business back in 1974.  Their vision is to establish Story Decorating as a leading independent decorating contractor with quality at the heart of all that they do.

As Rob Story, Managing Director adds, “We are delighted to win this award and to accept it on behalf of everyone who works in the business and who help make us who we are today.  Running a business takes a lot of hard work, time and desire to succeed but recognition on the national stage really does make it all worthwhile.  We look forward to sharing the news which will give us all a fantastic boost as we enter the next phase in our family business journey.”
