Bolney Awarded National Spirit Of Family Business Award

Bolney scooped the Spirit of Family Business Award at the Family Business of the Year Awards (‘FBOTY’) organised by Family Business United (‘FBU’).

FBU celebrates family owned businesses across the UK, recognising the contribution they make in terms of employment, income generation and wealth creation and the national awards are the culmination of the award journey and a chance to really put family businesses on the map.

In the ‘virtual’ awards ceremony held live online, Bolney took the Spirit of Family Business title.. This year was a little different as the live awards were hosted virtually, but it was a brilliant evening nonetheless.

Bolney Sam LinterAs Sam Linter, Managing Director at Bolney explains, “Here at Bolney we are passionate about what we do, and it’s so special to us when this is recognised by others too. We are absolutely delighted to have won the National Spirit of Family Business award, as well as to be named one of the top three regional Family Businesses of the Year in London and the South East!”

Paul Andrews, CEO of Family Business United, presenting the award added: “The Spirit of Family Business Award goes to a family firm who demonstrate strong community links and involvement, a real sense of purpose and a business that is really firmly rooted in their people. Our winners really do demonstrate the spirit of family business.”

“A third-generation family firm based in the heart of Sussex with family guiding the business with passion, dedication and expertise. The broader team, together with the family, work hard to make Bolney a great place to work, a great place to visit, and have ambitious plans for the future.”

“They’ve been guided by nature since 1972 and really do make the most of their story, their heritage and the natural beauty of the estate where they’re based. Since the beginning they’ve rolled up their sleeves, they’ve got their hands dirty and they’ve not been afraid to fail. Their sheer determination and will to succeed, dictated by the climate and the terrain, has shown they really are guided by the environment too.”

Passionate, pioneering, with a strong commitment to support the local community, this is a family within a family business.  Having started as a family firm back in 1972, it’s important to everyone at Bolney that they continue to grow, that they remain as a close, hard-working team who invest in the journey together and feel the same passion and drive that there was when the business began.”

“They work hard to ensure that this is a great place to work and are really proud of their roots and they do like to share their story far and wide.”

“Heavily involved in the community, community is key to who they are and what they do, and a real passion for their product; making wine in the heart of Sussex since 1972.  Bolney Wine Estate are a great family firm and worthy winners of the National Spirit of Family Business award for 2020.”

Sam added, “It means so much to us here at Bolney Wine Estate to win the National Spirit of Family Business Award. It’s really down to the whole team here at Bolney; they’re just amazing and we think of everybody who works here as the Bolney family. They have the same shared values, motivation and drive that we have, and my parents as founding fathers had as well.”

“It is so important to us that everybody is involved in making our business the best it can be, and the fact that we’ve won this award is down to their hard work and determination. We love our business and our estate, and we do the very best we can with what nature provides us here in our vineyard; we’re very much guided by nature. We’re also very much embedded in the community here in Bolney which is really important to us. Thank you so much to the judges and Family Business United for giving us this award,” concludes Sam.
