About Walkers Nurseries
Doncaster’s favourite family business is blooming.
In 1951 Lawrence and Vera Walker purchased a plot of land just outside Blaxton, Doncaster. This land had never before been ploughed, but with two years hard work they had enough crops to sell.
As well as passing trade Lawrence would ride his motorbike with a sidecar full of produce to Doncaster market to set up his stall, and so Walker’s Nurseries was born.
Elaine Bodle, Lawrence’s daughter, is in charge today, and we now have nearly two dozen full and part-time workers at the Nurseries.
Back then, we were called Walker’s Roses, and today’s show gardens are where the roses were once grown on site. We exhibited our produce at flower shows around Britain, winning many awards.
Today, we are very proud of our stimulating and inventive displays of plants which we hope will prompt you to browse, and to foster an interest in gardening, whether as an amateur or at advanced level. And remember – advice is free and readily available. We’re only too happy to chat to you about our plants, your gardening problems, or anything else you wish to discuss. Growing gorgeous gardens is our business!
Shrubs, flowers, bedding plants, grasses, foliage, pines – there are plants of all colours shapes and sizes. There’s so much to excite the eye and stimulate the mind.
We’re here to give you some fresh ideas, and to prove to you that gardening can become a choice instead of a chore, bringing its own rewards of colour, food for the table, pleasure and – we are sure – compliments from your family, friends and neighbours.
