About Quayside Whitby

As third generation chippies, we Fuscos know a thing, or three, about good fish and chips – after all it’s been our business for more than 50 years.

As third generation chippies, we Fuscos know a thing, or three, about good fish and chips – after all it’s been our business for more than 50 years.

Quayside has been run by the Fusco Family since 1999 and its award-winning proper Yorkshire fish and chips have made it the heart of Whitby’s harbour. Occupying one of Whitby’s most historic buildings – dating back to the 1820s – it originally served as a public bathhouse, museum and library.

In the late 1890s, it’s said Bram Stoker carried out research for his gothic novel Dracula in the first floor library. In the early 1900s, it became shops and a photographic studio, and at the outbreak of war was used to feed the troops before they nipped upstairs to a dance club. Today, Fusco’s first floor cocktail bar, Bar 7, welcomes similar revelers!

As third generation chippies, we Fuscos know a thing, or three, about good fish and chips – after all it’s been our business for more than 50 years. Our family runs Quayside, Fish Box and the Royal Fisheries, which we took over in 1968. As a family, we’re dedicated to offering other families first-class food fried with passion, and served with pride.

Quayside’s team

It takes a talented team of more than 50 people to deliver award-winning fish and chips. Our leader is Stuart Fusco, eldest son, frier manager and director at Quayside. Stuart has taken the Quayside from strength to strength since he took over in 1999, winning national recognition along the way including the ‘Young Fish Frier of the Year’ award and ‘Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year’.

At Quayside, we love to share our knowledge and our passion for proper Yorkshire fish and chips. The Fusco Foundation Schools Package is a special programme tailored to the enquiry units in National Curriculum Key Stages 1 and 2 that offers schools the chance to get behind the scenes at Quayside.

Here classes of up to 50 children can learn all about our fish and potatoes, from the raw product to the fried one, about sustainability and the food chain, Whitby and the local community. An ideal school trip for children up to the age of 11, all programmes end with a champion fish and chip treat.
