About Nanny Brow
Nanny Brow is s luxury B&B in Lake District.
Standing majestically on the steep fell side of Loughrigg, Nanny Brow, a luxury boutique B&B in the Lake District, sits peacefully on its own crag with unrivalled views of the Brathay Valley, the hills behind Tarn Hows, Wrynose Pass and the high fells of Langdale. A short walk through semi ancient woodland takes you to a superb lookout to watch the sailboats on Windermere. A further pull takes you to Lily Tarn, Ivy Crag and miles of superb walks over Loughrigg Fell to Rydal and even Grasmere.
The house is an Arts & Crafts gem built in 1904 by the distinguished architect Francis Whitwell.
Whitwell, who practiced with Guy Dawber in London, was a fellow of RIBA and later came to Ambleside to settle and build his family home. Built using traditional Lakeland stone on the solid rock of Nanny Brow, this imposing country house boasts of many subtle features so characteristic of the Arts & Crafts movement including gentle motifs of animals and flowers in the plasterwork, oak paneling and leaded oak picture windows facing the valley and the hills.
Today, this country house is now a luxury boutique B&B, made perfect for those vacationing in Lake District. We offer just thirteen bedrooms, two elegant lounges for guests to use at their leisure, and five acres of grounds to relax and explore. Period oak paneling and beautifully crafted furniture are offset by luxuriously modern en suites, sumptuous beds, free wireless internet and digital television. All the rooms are individually designed and furnished, with most having stunning views of the Lakeland fells.
Our award-winning breakfasts, served in the original dining room, are a special treat. We use the finest ingredients the region and what the season has to offer. We are proud to source most of what we serve within 20 miles of Ambleside. For the evening, we can provide recommendations from a superb range of eateries including quiet pubs, restaurants, bistros and award-winning hotels.
For the last 12 years Peter & Susan Robinson have been looking after guests in the Cotswolds (Cranbourne House). Now with their manager Mark Jones, they enter a new hospitality chapter combining the relaxing air of a family home with the levels of comfort and service that you might expect from a luxury hotel.
