About Mrs King's Pork Pies

Bakers of authentic, award-winning Melton Mowbray Pork Pies since 1853

The culinary skills of Elizabeth King provided the foundation for a caring family business, with handmade pastry, careful seasoning and the finest fillings at the heart of everything. It is this heritage which has been passed down intact through the years.

In the early 1960’s, Kenneth Parr - himself a master piemaker - felt so strongly about the tradition of Mrs King’s Pies that he bought the "business" and the ovengloves with it! Grandsons Paul, Ian and Neil Hartland joined their Grandfather in the business in 1984 and learned their trade - and their passion for pies - from one of the best piemakers in the business.

The trio of brothers have been now working together for over 25 years and are delighted that the next generation of pie makers, Luke and Adam, (both Ian’s sons) are now working along side them. It seems certain that the unique heritage of Mrs King’s Pies will endure for generations to come.

Award Winners

If a reputation for the finest quality and product with genuine provenance every time is integral to Mrs King’s Pies, recent years have seen some impressive contributions to that heritage in the form of numerous accolades and awards. The coveted Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Championship was first won back in 1960 by Grandpa Parr, and then many more times by the ‘Hartland boys’ in the intervening decades. The current range of pies numbers no less than five prestigious award winners, including Luke and Adam’s Best Steak & Kidney Pie awarded at the 2009 British Pie Awards.

Mrs King’s Pies have also featured in many newspaper articles and TV shows, including the prestigious Rick Stein’s Food Heroes. Internet foodie blogger Simon Majumder of Eat My Globe names our pies as one of the world’s Top 10 ‘must-eat foods - an accolade indeed.
