About Milsom Hotels & Restaurants

The history of the Milsom Hotels & Restaurants group can be traced back to the early 1950s and the purchase of a tea room which would go on to become an iconic property within the group.

Le Talbooth Restaurant was discovered by the late Gerald Milsom in 1952, when it was just a simple tearoom with a superb location by the River Stour. Several years later, in 1969, Gerald bought Maison Talbooth and established it as a luxury hotel.

In 1978, Gerald, returning from a visit to America, decided that he rather liked the idea of having a seafood restaurant. He found The Pier in Harwich was for sale – and the rest is history!

In 2001, Paul and Geraldine Milsom opened Milsoms in Dedham, which quickly became the place to eat, drink and stay in Essex. During this decade, the company also grew the outside catering arm of the business with Milsom Catering, which is now the preferred caterer for parties and events at a number of outstanding venues in the area.

On the eve of its 40th anniversary in 2008, the Maison experienced an exciting reinvestment to ensure it remained at the highest standard.

Meanwhile, in April 2008, Paul and Geraldine embarked on another new venture with the opening of Kesgrave Hall. This magnificent Grade II listed Suffolk mansion has been refurbished – while maintaining the original features of the building – as a contemporary brasserie with 23 stylish bedrooms.

The Hangar at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall opened in the autumn of 2010 as one of Suffolk’s largest indoor party event spaces, providing a much-needed conference and party facility just outside Ipswich.

Milsoms enjoyed a major refurbishment in January 2015, when work to the Library, Lounge and toilets was completed. Led by Geraldine, the new design ensured the best loved aspects of the property were retained, while injecting a new and exciting look for the years ahead.

Milsom Hotels are a unique collection of hotels and restaurants, personally run by the Milsom family, who have over 60 years of experience in hospitality. We pride ourselves on providing great places to eat, drink and stay.
