Dolcetti is a family-run business in Cirencester, making Artisan Italian Gelato, Sorbets and unique Ice Cream Cakes.
It all started in 1984 in South Africa when Rob Gibson first fell in love with Italian Gelato. He learned to make the creamy ice cream and helped to establish the largest chain of Ice Cream parlours in South Africa. Gelato (from the Latin, gelatus; meaning frozen) is a soft ice cream that is made from cream, milk, and sugar and contains little or no air.
Since arriving in the U.K he has had the dream of opening a factory and parlour producing ice cream in the Italian style, using locally sourced ingredients. In March 2013 Dolcetti Ice Cream Company opened their doors to a flavour sensation.
Based in Cirencester, this family run business is supplying local caterers and restaurants, as well as providing a “parlour” for the general public to be able to enjoy the products and to observe the production through the huge viewing window onto the lab. As well as 24 flavours of gelato, sorbets, and yoghurt ice cream to choose from, there are also milkshakes and various Dolcetti Delights (parfaits in a glass) on offer. Unique to Dolcetti is a range of ice cream cakes (though no cake in the cakes!), including made-to-order celebration cakes with your own choice of flavour combinations.
Milk and cream sourced from a local dairy farm is pasteurised on site in the factory to ensure that quality and food safety consistency are always maintained. Each batch of ice cream is handmade with care and attention, ensuring the Artisan nature of the final products. Rob insists that all flavours and real local fruit are of the highest standard and is strictly opposed to using any artificial additives. It is this commitment to quality that results in the creamy texture and intense flavours that Dolcetti Gelato has already become well-known for.
With quality being the most important mantra in the business along with locally sourced ingredients, the Dolcetti slogan “Cow to Cone in a Day” is perfectly applicable.
