About Campbells Prime Meat Ltd
Suppliers of meat and fish to many of Scotlands finest hotels and restaurants
The first Campbells butcher shop was opened in Edinburgh in 1910 by the current managing director’s great grandfather, Thomas Campbell. The present company was founded by Edward J. Campbell in 1972 and over the years has expanded and moved from its original premises in Granton, Edinburgh to our current 17 acre Heatherfield site near Linlithgow. Campbells Butchers Shop
Edward’s eldest son Christopher now runs the business which has matured into the largest, most flexible, approachable and affordable catering supplier in Scotland, offering the complete range of fresh meat, fresh fish and delicatessen products to the catering and hospitality industry.
CampbellsMeat.com – our online retail Butcher Shop - opened in 2001 and offers Scottish meat, fish and deli produce to the public UK wide and to continental Europe.
Campbells combines the best aspects of a large company with those of a family owned business. We are Scotland’s leading supplier of the complete range of fresh meat, fresh fish and delicatessen to food service customers in Scotland. We carry over 1500 product lines from Scotch Beef to Sea Salt.
Being a Scottish company is a great advantage to Campbells. It helps us to produce the highest quality meat, because Scottish farmers rear great animals, predominantly grass fed and based on less intensive agriculture systems than elsewhere in Europe. Outside the supermarket sector, we are the largest purchasers of Scottish Beef, Lamb and Pork in Scotland.
Our own Prime Scotch Beef brand – Campbells Gold Scotch Beef – is specially sourced and matured by us in our own temperature and atmosphere controlled, dedicated, dry aged hanging chill.
All of Campbells’ meats are butchered in the traditional way, not a production line. This makes a big difference to the quality.
Our fresh fish is just that – fresh. We are members of the Caithness Fish Salesmen’s association and we source all of our fish daily. Our own fish buyer in Scrabster buys fish at the quayside from boats fishing in the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, assuring our customers of the freshest, Scottish landed fish.
Campbells supplies the whole range of French, Italian and Spanish delicatessen products with twice weekly deliveries direct to our factory from Rungis Market, Europe’s largest food market. If you buy a French cheese or corn fed poultry from us, it is as fresh to you as it would be to a restaurant in Paris.
John Campbell, also known as Niffy, one of Thomas Campbell’s five sons, was the original Haggis maker in the Campbell family business. Campbells Haggis is now made in the 4th generation with our own traditional family recipe, using only the finest ingredients, Scottish Lamb and Oats and our own special blend of seasoning.
We remain at the forefront of food safety and hygiene, e-trading and delivery and distribution. Campbells is a registered Training and Examination Centre for the Royal Institute of Public Health and we employ our own team of Hygiene officers. Our premises are unique in Scotland in having BRC Accreditation for both meat and fish.
