Bringing the family business community together

The 2018 Family Business Santa Dash

27th November 2018 Paul Andrews

Family Business United and Plan Insurance have launched a national campaign to help homeless and vulnerable people this Christmas.

Announcing their second charity Christmas campaign in association with Plan Insurance, Family Business United is launching a multi-faceted campaign in the run up to help the homeless and vulnerable at a time when others more fortunate are celebrating with their families.

Donations of blankets, warm clothes, scarves and gloves and health essentials are welcome as part of the campaign with all items required by Friday 7 December in order for them to be distributed as part of the campaign.  The team will undertake a week long series of visits to regional towns and cities to collect the items that will then be distributed through homeless charities.

Starting off in Manchester on December 3 visits are planned in our festively decorated van to a number of family firms along the way who are signed up to collect items and/or to act as regional collection centres for those wishing to join the campaign but not have a visit.

There are a number of ways to get involved:

1 – Arrange a collection of items for the homeless and arrange for them to be delivered to one of our regional collection points (by Friday 30 November) marked for the attention of Paul Andrews, Family Business United, Family Business Santa Dash 2018 (see below).

2 – Arrange a collection of items for the homeless and  bring them in person to the regional collection point on the date/time specified where we can take pictures with you, the sponsored/liveried van and promote your involvement via social media too (see below).

3 – Collect a large number of items and we can come to you and collect them on the trip (subject to logistics and the route!), taking pictures and promoting your involvement. We clearly have a limited number of slots on the day so please get in touch ASAP if you would like us to visit!

Our Regional Collection Centres

If you are planning to drop in to one of our collection points please do send me an email to paul@familybusinessunited.co.uk to confirm, with a mobile contact number as we don’t want to miss anyone on the day and never quite know what the traffic is going to be like on the day!

During the week the team will also be visiting a number of other family firms and sharing the whole trip on social media.  Follow us on twitter using the hashtag #FamBizSantaDash to keep up to date.

For anyone else wishing to support our efforts, we are encouraging people to forego a tea or coffee and to to donate the 'cost of a cuppa' via our fundraising page to help us support Emmaus UK, the national charlty that really does make a difference.  To find out more and make a donation please click here.

As Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United explains, "We can all afford to miss out on a coffee and whilst the amount may not seem significant on its own, collectively the donations will mount up and help us to make a real difference to the lives of those more vulnerable.  We plan to use the funds to buy more sleeping bags and blankets to distribute to the homeless and help them to keep warm in the cold winter nights."

Grant Georgiades, Managing Director of Plan Insurance who are partnering with Family Business United on the campaign adds, "As a family and a family business, the plight of the homeless at this time of the year is something that we want to try and do something about and to make a difference through this campaign, however small, is something that we are passionate about.  We are clear in our intentions to make a difference and the trip in the van around the UK will add some fun to the event, helping to raise awareness and provide lots of content to share on social media too."

The trip commences on December 3 and runs throughout the week and family firms that are already signed up to be visited and to take part in this initiative include HMG Paints, Century Office, Thomas Graham and G Seller.

With figures from Shelter showing that there are more now than 250,000 homeless people in the UK today this campaign is clearly going to make a difference.

As Paul added, "We are keen to hear from anyone who wants to get involved with the campaign so please do not hesitate to get in touch, especially if there is an interest in supplying some of the items or for us to collect along the way."

Follow the campaign on social media using the hashtag #FamBizSantaDash

As Paul concludes, "We are really looking forward to a trip around the UK that will undoubtedly bring out the best in the family business community and really are loolking forward to making a difference this Christmas."
