SC Johnson has announced it is making a multi-million dollar expansion of its Bay City, Michigan plant in order to meet increased demand.
The investment will cover development of infrastructure and equipment for new production lines. Currently, the plant produces billions of Ziploc® bags a year and exports products to seven countries outside the United States.
“We are proud to be making this major investment in one of our U.S. facilities and supporting economic development in Bay City and the state of Michigan,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “This expansion will help us meet increased customer demand for Ziploc, a flagship brand in our product portfolio.”
The investment will include a new 56,000 square foot building that will connect to the existing primary production area of the plant. Construction will begin in May 2017 with the new production lines projected to be operating in 2018. In addition to the positive economic impact of the construction, 25 full-time jobs will be created, including positions in manufacturing, warehouse operations, and electrical and mechanical maintenance.
The expansion plan is being supported in part by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Bangor Township to help maintain economic growth and development in the region.
