Family Business United is delighted to showcase some of the key findings from the Family Business Road Trip 2015.
With family businesses accounting for more than 3 million firms in the UK, providing 9.2 million jobs and generating £1.1 trillion turnover (almost 25% of UK GDP), this was the second innovative tour of family businesses to mark the contribution they make to the UK economy.
Family firms visited during the 2015 Road Trip:
- Have £2.4 billion cumulative turnover
- 4,276 cumulative years trading
- Employ collectively 13,722 members of staff.
Family firms from across the business spectrum took part, from funeral directors to hotel groups, builders merchants to power tool distributors, a vineyard, bird sanctuary and a number of family owned breweries. All shared one thing in common, family is at the heart of everything they do, and irrespective of the generation of family involvement, family values were core to these businesses and the messages permeated to all the stakeholders in these firms.
The report helps to dispel some of the myths surrounding family firms, recognise the contribution they make to the UK economy and includes an insight into some common themes that are recognised as needing to be addressed by family business owners in the UK today.
