John Lewis Champions Bolney Wines

Family owned Bolney Wine Estate Sparkling Wines are to be sold in John Lewis stores this summer.

Bolney Wine Estate’s premium English sparkling wines, the Blanc de Blancs 2011 (75cl), Blanc de Blancs 2010 (150cl) and the Cuvée Rosé 2014 are selling at all John Lewis stores and online across the UK. They will be the first English wines to be sold in magnums at John Lewis.

Produced at Bolney’s vineyard in the heart of Sussex, the Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% chardonnay grapes with at least 12 months ageing, made in the traditional method with hints of citrus fruits and gentle floral notes. Its smooth texture makes it the perfect accompaniment to shellfish, poultry, pork and strong cheeses.

The Cuvée Rosé 2014 is celebrated as a high-quality sparkling wine made with 100% pinot noir grapes in the traditional method. The wine has flavours of light cherry and toasted brioche. Pair with appetisers or starters and even some red berry desserts to draw out the notes of raspberry and strawberry.

The John Lewis listing follows the vineyard’s recent accolades for the The Bolney Wine Estate’s Cuvée Rose 2014. The wine was awarded a Silver medal in the Effervescents du Monde 2016, a silver at Decanter 2017 and a Gold at the Global Rose Masters 2017. 

Bolney Estate Cuvée Rosé 2014 (75cl, 150cl), Bolney Estate Blanc de Blancs 2011 bottle (75cl) and Bolney Estate Blanc de Blancs 2010 magnum (150cl) are available in all John Lewis stores.

The Bolney Wine Estate story began in 1972, when owners Janet and Rodney Pratt planted three acres of vines to create what was then only the sixth commercial vineyard in England.  Sam Linter, Rodney and Janet’s daughter, took the reins in the mid-1990s and is now ably assisted by Winemakers Liz Garrett, who returned from a vintage at Cloudy Bay in 2013, and Alex Rabagliati, who has experience in Mosel, Margaret River and Sonoma. All are graduates of the esteemed Plumpton College in East Sussex, England. Today, Bolney Wine Estate has grown to 39 acres (15.8 ha), with a state-of- the-art winery added in 2005.

The Estate, under Sam’s exacting eye, specialises in producing premium red, white, rosé and sparkling English wines that have won numerous awards, and legions of fans, all over the world. 

In 2012, Bolney Wine Estate won UK Wine Producer of the Year in the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
